Macrovision lavede kopibeskyttelse til især VHS-film og fortsatte over i det med tv-guides.

Der skiftede de navn til Rovi, som de beholdte indtil nu.
De har netop færdiggjort opkøbet af TiVo, der måtte se sin forretning skrante mere og mere som følge af streamingens indtog.
Rovi har herefter taget navneforandring til TiVo, og slår sig nu på hele pakken for TV brugerflader med et nyt bud der har fået navnet TiVo UX som producenter af tv-bokse og smart tv kan gøre brug af.
